PIPE: Presenting Sponsor for STRIKE FOR STEM

PIPE representative, Jan Catalano states, “We believe that science and math education are vital to the future growth and success of the petroleum industry and overall economic development in oil and gas in the greater New Orleans region.  PIPE member organizations represent all aspects of exploration, drilling and production operations in the petroleum industry.  We are committed to educating, supporting and increasing the knowledge of our industry in the community.  It is through our force of dedicated professionals that our organization is able to make a real difference.”

 PIPE members promote energy education to children, young adults and their families.  Petroleum industry societies and organizations work closely with  the Louisiana Children’s Museum.  They hosts special programs throughout the year such as “Super Science Saturday” and “FETCH Oil and Energy Saturday” which have grown in popularity over the  years.  At these programs, PIPE societies provide exhibits about the industry and how their particular discipline relates to oil and gas production. Children of all ages learn about the many every day products that are a result of the petroleum industry. In addition, societies provide lectures, demonstrations and games to help introduce people to the various aspects of the petroleum industry.  Society members donate their time and talents to assist in these activities, bringing excitement and fun to the learning process for both children and their parents. 

Ms. Catalano points out, “Diversity is important in getting youth interested in science and math.  It is important that we support a variety of opportunities for teachers, students and their families to get involved with educational opportunities.”  PIPE members support awards at GNOSEF (Greater New Orleans Science and Engineering Fair), sponsors the BLaST (Building Louisiana Science and Technology) First LEGO competition and supports a variety of educational materials for a variety of projects.
